The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Region 1, in partnership with the Pangasinan State University Urdaneta Campus, recently concluded a highly successful 5-day training program on Basic Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing. The intensive course, held from December 2nd to 6th, 2024, equipped participants with the essential skills and knowledge needed to identify and address vulnerabilities in computer systems and networks.

Expert Mentorship and Practical Skills

The training benefited from the expertise of two prominent figures in the cybersecurity field: Sir Christian Idia (Certified Ethical Hacker) and Sir Tzar Umang (CyberSecurity Professionals). Participants gained hands-on experience with industry-standard tools like Wireshark, ZAPProxy, and Nmap, learning how to effectively scan websites and identify potential security weaknesses.

Deep Dive into Digital Forensics

The program also delved into digital forensics, focusing on steganography methods and other relevant tools. Participants learned to analyze digital evidence, recover deleted data, and extract hidden messages from various file types.

Modern Penetration Testing Techniques

Participants were introduced to a range of modern penetration testing techniques and equipment, including:

  • HackRF: This hardware-based tool was utilized for demonstrating car penetration testing methods.
  • M5 Module: Participants learned how to use this WiFi deauther and portal login tool effectively.
  • ESP8266 Microcontroller: The training covered the applications of ESP8266 in IoT-related projects.
